what’s in a scooter domain name? part II
Published by Crystal March 11th, 2008 in news & gossip.
I’ve been obsessing again about domain names lately for a couple of reasons. First of all, my domains are having significant birthdays. My very first domain name, typo.com, just turned 12 years old, which is like 150 in web years. It’s so hard to believe that so much time has gone by. typo.com used to be my personal and business site back when I was an editor and then wrote books for a living, in the pre-webcrash days. Once I moved out of that market and started writing more about cycling, typo.com got pushed to the back burner when girlbike.com - which is almost 9 years old - started becoming the focus.
Secondly, I’ve decided to try to clean out my modest hoard of domain names that I don’t use so that someone else can have these pieces of virtual real estate rather than have them sit and rust in the shed (OK, they don’t really do that, but it sort of made sense when I first thought of it).
Just like the last time I wrote about scooter domains, I’ve been wandering around looking at various domains-for-sale sites and checking out what the domain market is up to. This time, I did a search on the keyword ’scooter’ over at Sedo. I narrowed the search to only “.com” domains, and got 753 domains for sale. Up pops scootergirl.com for sale at a whopping $10,000. Holy guacamole! That’s a domain I’d wanted since I started this whole scooter blogging thing, but I’m afraid I don’t have $10K to spend on it. Oh well, I want to get rid of some domains, not get a new expensive one.
As expected, some of the domains I saw for sale are kind of awkward, like e85scooter.com and homemadegasscooter.com. But there are some interesting ones out there, too, like scooterforum.com ($1,588) and scooterguide.com ($800). I know there’s got to be some enterprising scooterist reading this right now who can turn one or both of those into something interesting and income-producing.
For those who don’t have $10K, I see that scootergal.com is for sale, as is scooterboys.com, scootermen.com, and scooterdude.com. Each invite you to make an offer.
For those interested in typosquatting, I noticed that electericscooter.com and elecrticscooters.com are for sale.
Well, back to perusing. I hope someone will leave a comment to remind me I’m doing this to figure out how to sell a couple of domain names, not to buy more. I hate to admit it, but I’m such a doofus that when I saw the domain twoscooters.com was for sale, I thought, now that’s one I should buy. And then about 10 minutes later, I remembered it was already mine, and that I’m the one who put it up there for sale. :: sigh ::
But my loss is your gain. Hey, for those with poetic leanings, how about buying onescooter.com, twoscooters.com, redscooters.com, and bluescooter.com? I’m only selling twoscooters.com, but the other three are also up for sale by their respective owners.

One scooter, two, red, blue…
Too funny! Thanks for the laugh.
You might consider looking at http://www.SnapNames.com for domain names. They have a search engine that ’spins’ name you enter, so if you type in Scooter, here are some of the names it returns that are coming available soon at much more reasonable prices:
clubscooter.com
scooteraudio.com
speedyscooter.com
scootercommuter.com
shinybike.com
Good lead, Craig, thanks. Scootercommuter is a good one.
This is a good read, once again Crystal. Being a blogger ain’t easy, but you prove you know what’s going on!
So, http://www.ladybike.com never interested you?
Yeah, “scootercommuter” popped out to me as the best of those examples.
Scootercommuter is a GREAT name!
It would certainly help draw a new crowd to scoootering with the ever increasing increasing gas prices. Folks might do google searches on such words as commuting, gas saving, alternative transportation, etc. Might be nice to have a site that includes all those key words.
i punsquat a lot. i should really clean out my own hoard one of these days, but it’s proven the most resistant of , uh, collections to purge.
i can quit anytime i want.
really.
LOL! modchen - I can quit anytime, too. I have it totally under control. I just don’t WANT to quit yet, so there. Those ‘other’ people just don’t understand. I wonder if “icanstopanytimeIwant.com” is taken??
It’s too bad that scootercommuter is just a parked domain. It really is a name with a lot of potential.
Crystal!
do you know, i actually looked up “crazyolddomainlady.com” the other day.
it wasn’t taken either. ^_^
