Here’s the news from the Vespa PR folks: Rex Hermogino of San Diego, Calif., winner of the Go Green Vespa Video Challenge from Piaggio Group Americas, Inc. will perform his ‘Vespa Vespa Music Video’ on Friday, November 16 at 7 p.m. at the International Motorcycle Show in San Mateo, Calif. His winning music video, selected from more than 100 original videos, earned him a Vespa GTS 250.
In the Go Green Vespa Video Challenge, Vespa scooter owners and fans of Vespa were encouraged to develop creative videos that demonstrate their devotion for Vespa scooters and brand. The video makers were challenged to promote the Vespanomics message: how Vespas help curb global warming, decrease traffic congestion and make a style statement. Finalists and the grand prize winner were determined by a Piaggio Group panel based on user ratings, ability to address key Vespanomics principles, as well as creativity and originality.

A delightful video! I’m not a Vespa fan, but it made me proud I own a scooter and happy to feel I am helping the earth, even if my Met represents Hondanomics…
Like Wendy I am not a Vespa fan but the sound is very cute and catchy!
It is a nice catchy tune & I applaud Vespa for promoting alternative transportation.

One thing I wish is that the commercial also promoted safety when riding a scooter as well.
But then again, Vespa is more into style with their half helmets.
IMO, Vespa needs to begin linking safety & fashion, too.
This video seems to add to the steerotypical- “hop on a scooter & ride” mentality.
The rider is wearing a half helmet, but he is in a T-shirt.
Thats was pretty good, watch for it in a commercial near you.
Soozn - one thing to keep in mind is that this was a Vespa-owner-made video, not produced by Vespa. He’s the one that bought his helmet. Vespa, like Honda and other companies, have long advocated rider safety - http://www.vespausa.com/ride/education.cfm
That said, it would be nice to see the rider in at least a leather jacket and something other than sneakers.
Crystal- I am aware that it was not an official commercial made by Vespa. Hoowever Vespa could easily have made safety one of the criteria in the contest.
I liked the “don’t waste paper” part
I hope no one took my comments as Vespa bashing. This video just reminded me of the silly Japanese Honda & Yamaha commercials where young girls hop on a scooter & ride along to happy music. With all the scooters & mopeds in Asia, wearing armored gear may not be as critical as it is in the US.

Vespa is trying to make inroads in a very auto dominant culture & they
really deserve credit for that. The other scooter manufacturers certainly aren’t even making an effort.
Vespa could have done a better job selecting the winning video & making safety a criteria as well as creativity.
Scooter riding in more armor might also appeal more to the US culture where war & battle seem so important
With all the suv’s & trucks on the road here, safety is a real concern & could be a big reason why people often do not choose to commute by scooter.
