update: the GIVI reflector at night

Just a quick follow up to the how to turn that big red plastic panel on your GIVI trunk into a true reflector for $5.48 story…

A member over at urbanscootin asked me if I’d tried it at night, which I hadn’t, so I set it up to see what it might look like to a driver behind me. I took the picture above, among others (click for a close up). This was taken about 40 or so feet away, with low beams from my van shining on the scooter and top case. My driveway is at a slant but since both the scooter and the van were roughly at the same angle, I’m guessing that shouldn’t make a difference. None of the scooter lights are on, I just rolled it down to the end of the driveway, turned on my low beams and took a picture from inside the van (with no flash) to get a “driver’s view.” It doesn’t “shine like the sun” like that ReflectGard product claims to, but it does add to its visibility more than the stock red plastic panel.

I did it with high beams, too, but I figured that hopefully if a car were 40 feet behind me, they wouldn’t have their high beams on.
