two scooterific years
Published by Crystal January 28th, 2007 in deal alert!, news & gossip, scooter seat covers.
I still can’t believe that my company scooterseatcovers.com is officially two years old this coming week.
Even though I’ve had a couple of years to think about it, when someone asks me what I do for a living, I still don’t really know how to describe it. According to fashion industry definitions, I’m officially (I think) a designer-entrepreneur of non-garment sewn products.
You may not believe this, but in my nearly 20 years as a writer and editor, I never - not even once - thought to myself, “someday, if I stay diligently on this path, I’ll be sewing scooter seat covers!” I never thought I’d own more sewing machines than computers, or that I’d be as obsessed about overlock machines as I am about scooters… for that matter, I never planned to be obsessed with scooters.
I tend to call myself a “writer [slash] editor”, since that’s what my resume is full of. No matter what the title, design mixed with business mixed with writing has been a constant, whether I was laying out ‘zines with an X-acto knife, freelancing and teaching desktop publishing, hand-coding HTML or writing books about web graphics.
No matter how my job is defined now, the scooter seat cover business keeps me busy. This past week, I’ve been creating new patterns and new products, and updating the site and the scooterseatcovers.com blog (you can never have too many blogs, right?).
Even with it’s challenges, through it all, I just plain love what I do. And yes, I still shake my head in disbelief when I say that. Me. Happy sewing scooter seat covers, of all things. Who would have believed that?
In the shameless self-promotion department…
The celebratory 2 cent shipping sale is only on for three more days!
With the current queue, orders are heading out the door to customers in a blazing two weeks.
Thank you for all of your support in the last two years!
