snowshoeing in lieu of scootering (don’t worry, it’s only temporary)

Dwayne and I decided to get ourselves snowshoes for Christmas, considering that we had about two feet of snow on the ground and there’s no end in sight.
It probably comes as no surprise that snowshoeing isn’t quite the same as scooting (damn! it requires physical labor!), but I did find that my lined, waterproof motorcycle pants made for a good pair of snowshoeing pants once I took out the knee and hip pads. I also wore my riding neck warmer, Joe Rocket winter gloves, and Fox racing socks
. The rest I wore was standard winter wear. If nothing else, I’ll be in great shape when scooter season starts back up again (it’s not far off, right? I mean, the days are already getting longer!).
We chose TSL “Walk in the Park” snowshoes, and really like them so far. TSL Outdoor is a company based in Vermont founded by former Tubbs employees after Tubbs left Vermont. They come in a variety of colors. The mens and womens versions are the same with the exception of color.

I thought of you while outlet-mall shopping today after reading this blog entry yesterday. We went into the Eddie Bauer store and found these “Yaktrax” half price.

It’s for walking on ice, looks like barbed wire you attach to the bottoms of your shoes. They were half or 40% off but we don’t need them here in Dallas where we get maybe one or two days of ice.
Crystal- we must be on the same wave length :))
My son had asked for some snowshoes for Christmas. While I was shopping for his, I decided to get myself a pair. We both got Redfeather brand

I got the women’s Pace model and he got their Hike model. I have rented and borrowed snowshoes in the past, but this is the first pair I have actually owned. Joe tried his out on the field near his home & said they worked just fine. Tomorrow we will go up to Rocky Mountain National Park and give them a real test…. yup a lot more physical exertion than scooting… I wonder if they make tiny snowshoe toys & other matching accessories…… mmmm
So how do you accessorize snowshoes? Any kind of bling to buy to make it say These Snowshoes Are Mine?
Well, snowshoe-ing sounds like hard work but very good for weight loss and fuel savings. Er,walk safe!
Ok Wendy–just visualize a pattern of tiny scooters instead of snow flakes on Crystal’s photo of the snowshoes……. LOL
Seriously though there is no way to bling these things, nor would you want any extra weigh to haul around…
