What’s almost as good as riding two 49cc scooters cross-country? Following the exploits of two guys who are doing just that, and voting on where they go next.
Meet the Scootstars, Peter “the Panther” and Josh “the Jackal.” A couple of weeks ago, they set out from LA on two cheapo 49cc scooters, bound for the east coast. So far, one scooter isn’t doing so well, and they are slowly crawling through on the way to Denver. Visitors to the site can vote for their next destination - as of this writing, it looks like that might be Sioux Falls, South Dakota. If, that is, they can keep both scooters running.
Don’t miss all the promo videos, including my favorite, the original composition/performance piece called “Scooters Amazing.”

A few years ago, the hosts of a SPEED Channel program called “Two-Wheel Tuesday” rode Yamaha Zumas from Charlotte, NC to Fontana, CA. One of the bikes was kitted, and ran poorly until it was returned to stock condition. The trip took about two weeks, though the two guys did have to fly back to Charlotte twice to host the show.
These guys stuck to the southern part of the country, probably so they wouldn’t have to climb into the rockies. There is, after all, only so much 50cc engines can do…
