Scooting from coast to coast
Published by Crystal March 23rd, 2006 in scooters, travel & touring.Ever since I first heard about Laird VanDykes’s trip across the U.S. on a Honda Metropolitan II (yes, that’s the restricted one), I’ve dreamt about doing some long distance scooter touring.Wandering Wheels has been doing 50cc cross-country scooter tours for 5 years now, according to co-founder Janech Davenport.”We will have between 23 to 27 scooters from 50cc to 150cc,” she writes. “We have been cycling for 42 years and next week will start our 63rd coast to coast [bike tour].”I asked why they picked 50cc scooters.”We choose small scooters because they give the same adventure as the bike,” she replied. “We ride about 150 miles a day. The slow speeds let you enjoy the sights. We also feel it is much safer.”They chose Kymco scooters because “they are great machines; they are easy to work on and they give me great support on the road.”For more information, visit WanderingWheels.org and click on Motor Scooter Trip. Janech and her husband are gone from tomorrow, March 24, until early May, though. They’ve got a country to cross.photo from wanderingwheels.org
