safety deal alert: wireless RiderLight under $25

I’ve been eyeing this safety accessory since last year: The RiderLight is a wireless strip of LED lights attached to your helmet that lights up when you hit your brakes. After five seconds, it starts flashing. You can also turn on the flashers manually, so they act as hazzard/warning flashers. And if you don’t want it on your helmet, you can attach it to your luggage or anywhere else on the bike where it might be visible.
I figured that anything that may help me be visible to other drivers is worth the price - and that price is usually around $60-$90. I happened to find the RiderLight in The Sportsman’s Guide catalog, under ATV accessories, for a sale price of $24.97 (if you happen to be a member, the price is only $22.47). Supplies are understandably limited at this price.
There’s a very comprehensive review of the RiderLight at webbikeworld.com. Like most other LED lights, they have to be at the right angle to see them at their brightest. Placement on the helmet is key, so webbikeworld recommends having a friend stand behind you while you are on your scooter in riding position to help determine where it is best viewed by other drivers. They are also best for night-time riding since they may not show up that well in bright daylight.
On my scooter, I’d have to hard-wire the transmitter into my brake wiring (that’s the ‘black box’ version). Others with the right brake light bulb can simply put in a brake bulb that has a transmitter built in. Check with your mechanic if you’re not sure which will work on your scooter.

I have a wireless brakelight for my helmet and it is great in low light, mornings, evenings and rainy weather and of course great at night. In the bright daylight it is hardly noticeable.
I got a really great deal: mine was a free gift from Kymco as a promotion for buying their scooter. Of course I didn’t buy the scooter because of the free brake light. I had already gotten the scooter and then discovered the promotion.
Now these are only $7.50 but there’s a newer much sexier model out now.
Here’s the link to the cheaper ones.
