crash bars don’t have to be a pain

As much as I love having crash bars on my scooter, I’ve found the ones I have to be a pain - literally. As you can see in the before picture, there’s a segment of the rear crash bar that stuck out a couple of inches. Unfortunately, I ended up with a perpetual bruise on the back of my right calf (the left one wasn’t as susceptible for some reason) which I attributed partially to the bars and partially to my height.
I’ve been posting around on various groups trying to find a set of crash bars like the ones shown on the ScooterWest site - the ones with passenger foot pegs built in. Notice how they curve down, so there’s nothing that can poke into the back of the driver’s legs. No luck, and they have been backordered forever. I’m on the waiting list along with a bunch of other people, and there’s no ETA when these will be coming in.
Finally, after a friend suggested it, I asked Dwayne if he could remove the cap, cut the bar, and put the cap back in. A few minutes and a hacksaw later, Dwayne had re-vamped my crash bars, and today I returned home from my errand run without any bruises on the back of my calves. As Emily would say, WOOT!

Why didn’t you hacksaw it yourself? Why have some guy do it for you?
Since I was hit by a car back in Nov ‘04, I have a permanent disability in my sawing arm.
