attempted robbery

My dog woke me up barking and very excited at 2:10 a.m. last night. I didn’t think much of it - maybe a neighborhood cat was out prowling, I thought. I peered out the window and noticed my scooter didn’t look right - I grabbed a flashlight and saw the cover was gone and it was on its side. Thankfully the thief/thieves were thwarted by the Kryptonite cable lock I had attached to the house, but the state police are now searching for a perpetrator in possession of a ripped Dowco motorcycle cover that smells like cat pee (allegedly caused by the same neighborhood cat mentioned previously). I’m convinced it wasn’t random; we live on a dead-end street and if you don’t know the scooter is parked here, then you can’t really see that it is there when it is covered up. There was a robbery last week in my neighborhood down the street. As my robbed neighbor said, “We’re not in Kansas anymore.” Ironically I was just talking to my friend Omily - who is in Kansas - about her scooter alarm. Guess what I’m ordering this morning. And I broke out the New York Chain Lock, too. You ever try to find the state police phone number in the phone book at 2:10 a.m. when your scooter has just been violated? It’s like one of those bad dreams when you keep trying to dial the phone and you can’t quite get it and you have to keep starting over… I’m only just starting to feel a little less nauseous and freaked out.
