::: sigh :::

I had promised Lisa pictures of me in my new olive Joe Rocket Atomic Jeans that I wrote about the other day, since she sent me a pic of her in hers. Besides, if you take a picture and send it and a ‘Happy Customer’ testimonial to New Enough, you get a $10 off coupon for a future purchase.

Lisa, this is my public apology: I’m sorry, but you are not getting a picture of me in these things.

When I ordered them, I carefully measured myself and compared it to the New Enough/Joe Rocket size chart. And I measured honestly, not just to make myself feel better. Even so, when I tried to try them on today, I couldn’t pull them up much more than a couple inches over my knees.

Granted, the site warns, “The ladies in our office feel the dress sizes are accurate with the hip armor removed, but with the hip armor installed, the pants run about one dress size small as compared to Joe Rocket’s estimate. To help you choose a size we measured the waist, hips and inseam of each pant size, so use the table below to select a size based on your measurements. Hip measurements were taken with armor installed. Taking the armor out adds about 2 inches to the hip measurement.”

What they didn’t say is that you have to have thighs about the size of my wrist. And I had just said to Lisa that I wish that stores would include the thigh measurement on women’s motorcycle wear. I gave them a second chance by removing the hip armor, and got them up about another half inch. I am not a big person, but I do have legs that have… well, let’s just say that they are bigger than my wrist. I mean, these were not just too small, they were stupidly too small. They are going back, and I’m not sure if I’ll get another pair. My ego can only take so much.

Addendum to the above: I’ve been emailing back and forth with Daniel at NewEnough.com and assured him that I’m not ticked off at New Enough by a long shot. As I told him, I just wish things fit. That’s the manufacturer’s fault, not his. You wouldn’t believe how many emails I get from women asking me if I know of any women’s jackets that actually accommodate a women’s chest, or if I know of pants that will fit a woman under 5′6″ (I’m 5′3″ so I never expect pants to ever fit me inseam-wise). Of course, all women are different sizes, and you can’t make everyone happy. But New Enough definitely tries. If you have a sizing problem, email Daniel, and he’ll see what he can do.

I bought some Tourmaster “jeans” (actually nylon pants with armor) that said to buy a size up in case you wanted to wear pants under them. I didn’t, I bought my regular size and they were still 2 sizes too big. Like an idiot, I took the tags off and tried to wear them and now I can’t send them back, and I don’t know anyone fat enough to fit in these giant pants. boo. They’re nice though (and only $53!?), I might have to get another pair that fits.

Wow.. that sucks hardcore. I’m larger, so I know finding motorcycle pants that fit me is like looking for the holy grail. I got a little excited last summer, when I checked out FieldSheers textile pants, which go all the way up to size 18, which is what I was (well, in everything other than motorcycle pants apparently… their size 18 textile jacket fit me just fine). One of my local gear shows ordered the pants for me… the measurements in the catalog matched mine exactly. When they came in, I tried them on. I got them all the way on, but couldn’t zip them up. *sigh* Trying to find good gear for women that fits well is really frustrating.

How giant are they? Maybe some of Girlbike’s readers are interested. If it hasn’t been too long and if you haven’t actually worn them, some places would take them back if you still have the tags. They could always reattach them before reselling them. $53 is a lot of money if you’re not going to wear them. You could also sell them via eBay or Craig’s list, but here would be better. What size do you consider “giant” Illinois, LOL?

Crystal- I received my Atomic Jeans today… well they fit over my hips and legs just fine…..the dang things would not go around my waist unless I laid down, sucked in my gut and then snapped them together. The knee armor is half way over my knee and half over my lower leg and I felt like a stuffed sausage— Sad to say they will be going back to New Enough as the next size up will be even longer than these….

  5. 5 Lisa

At least you were able to zip yours up, Susan, LOL. I couldn’t even do that! Length you could always fix. I am tall so I have the opposite problem all the time. Thanks for letting us know. I was curious. Stuff sausage, LOL, what imagery.

  6. 6 Crystal

I might have been able to zip mine if I didn’t have bones, LOL!

O, preach ON, sistah! I have been wearing the same leather jacket I wore all winter in the 90 degree weather here in Philly. Why? Because I cannot find a jacket that is small enough in the shoulders and arms, but large enough in the bust and hip. With all the trouble I’ve had with jackets, I wouldn’t dare dream to venture into the realm of armored pants. Hello clothing manufacturers, women have curves!

Crystal I emailed Daniel at NewEnough and he was great.
I have purchased 3 jackets, two helmets and several pairs of gloves from NE over the past 3 years and they have always been outstanding with speedy shipping and friendly customer service….

I wonder if the threat to send New Enough photos of all of us posing in our ill fitting Joe Rocket Atomic pants could have been the clincher in having him agree to let me return my pants?? :))

Fake sizes are so annoying! Especially when you actually measured and everything!!! I hope you girls get some new ones that fit soon!

I feel guilty typing this. I got my Joe Rocket jeans today. I had ordered the large and they fit pretty well. They are slightly tight across my tummy but not too small. I almost always fit into a 12 and most size 10s are to snug.

I bought these in an XL from New Enough. I could NOT get them on to save my life! I know Joe Rocket tends to run a little on the small side, but this was just horrible! I would say the XL would fit an 8/10 nicely, provided you don’t have hips and thighs.

I am sending them back. Fortunately, New Enough has the best service ever!

  12. 12 Greasergrrl

I bought two pair and sigh… I’m gonna have to lose 20 lbs to get these snapped up. Back they go….

If anybody bought an XL black pair of these jeans, doesn’t want them, and hasn’t sent ‘em back to New Enough yet, I’d be willing to take them off your hands. I bought an additional pair of the XLs in the olive, and found when they arrived that I don’t like the color at all. I’d like to have an additional black pair, but New Enough seems to finally be running out of their inventory — no XL black pairs left.
