Ace of Scooter Cakes

Special thanks to Charm City Cakes for permission to use their photo.
I was dubbed a Cake Geek by my husband for my love of cake decorating long before I received my Scooter Nerd status, and I never dreamed those two passions would ever be so beautifully combined!
I have recently become totally obsessed with Ace of Cakes on Food Network. They do things with cakes the likes of which I have never imagined much less seen. There has been everything on the show from a cake reproduction of the Hogwarts grounds from Harry Potter to a playable Scrabble board. It wasn’t until I was surfing the website of Charm City Cakes, who make all of those fabulous confections, that I discovered the pinnacle of cake coolness.
Behold the Lambretta scooter cake! Now I don’t know about everyone else, but I’d love to see one of those at any birthday party for me.

Lesley, your subtle hint about the cake is duly noted.
I think it has a flat and you will have to wait for roadside assistance
I make a lot of cakes myself and find this amazing. I wonder how they made the icing look metalc?

LOL Kathy!! at least you won’t go hungry while you’re waiting for the tow truck.
Isn’t the sparkle gorgeous. I don’t know what they used exactly, but Wilton has something called Pearl Dust that you can use to make it sparkle. I simply must get some of the pink.
Lesley- that scooter cake is just gorgeous. I love how realistic the scooter is with the sheen and the tires and seat are fabulous. It is too pretty to eat. But if they made tiny scooter cupcakes, I would surely scarf one or two down.
I have actually been looking for a scooter shaped cookie cutter. That’s probably a little more within my ability level.
Ooooh Cara if you find one you simply have to share where! That would be awesome! I know there are some places online that will actually custom make you a cookie cutter, but I’ve got no idea how much that would cost. I may have to do some looking into that though. hehe
I found one place that will do a custom one. The starting price is $85. I don’t know if I need a scooter shaped cookie cutter that bad. Ha!
I do believe that Ace of Cakes was the shop who made the cake for the Charm City Scooter Rally last year. Anyone know for sure? Regardless, Baltimore is a terrific city and the rally is just awesome. The people there are so cool! Here is a picture I took of the cake: http://scoot.net/gallery/2007/05/charmcity/Poliana/small_rally126.jpg

Here’s a website that has a make your own shape cookie cutter kit. It’s not cheap at $25.00, but it’s more reasonable than $85.00.

Poliana, you’re correct - it was Charm City Cakes and specifically Mary Smith who made the cake last year. Mary is sweet - she let my son interview her for a school project last year.
