I got a link from Lisa (thanks, Lisa) to the official announcement for the new 2008 Honda scooters lineup. Among other new looks are a black/grey and a red/red ‘premium’ Metropolitan (you’ll pay more for these), and a hot looking metalic silver Ruckus. The Silverwing remains the flagship of the Honda scooter line, but no more Reflex, Helix, or Elite 80 this time around. See the announcement, here.

Is it just me or is Honda missing the boat here? I’m a big fan of the retro styling of the Metropolitan (I think it’s called a Jazz here in Canada) and the funky Ruckus, but a 50 cc scooter is just too small for me, which is why I went for my Vino 125. But then I’m just an old biker chiq!

Crystal - I don’t think the Reflex, Helix & Elite have actually been dropped by Honda–they seem to stagger the announcements of their new lineup, so may be announced later in the season.

Maggie–Honda sure has missed the boat for the last several years by not providing a 125 or 150 cc scooter. There are many Met owners who would buy a Met 125 or 150 or similar scooter if it were distributed by Honda for the North American market.
At least Yamaha has the Vino 125 & I got mine the same reason as you. In many locations, there are no other scooter dealers other than Honda & Yamaha.

    Again!
I love the Metropolitan but it’s just not big enough!!! When will Honda get this?!!!
    A 125 or 150 Met, please!!!

I LOVE the Gothic! It’s gorgeous! And no it’s not just because I’m still a little goth girl at heart. ;)

In our Honda Yahoo group, we’re thinking that Honda has a big supply of unsold 2007s, so dealers still might have new Reflexes, Helixes and Elites. You’d think Honda in their announcements would MENTION the Reflex, Helix and Big Ruckus, but they haven’t. In our Yahoo group they wishfully think that Honda would bring to the US the Forza which is an updated Reflex that sells in Japan. Honda and other manufacturers give other countries more scooter selection because it’s a bigger market than here. (Sigh)

Lesley, somehow I see you on the Sapero (http://girlbike.com/2007/08/08/qlink-motorcycles/) rather than the goth Met.

If Honda came to their senses and started importing the SH’s and the Dylan, they would probably kick Piaggio’s butt back to Italy. I guess we can keep dreaming for another year.

Are we just a limited demographic here, or what? I talked to the new Vespa dealer in my small city about 3 hours E of TO and he said that 50 % of his browsers are women but 90 % of the buyers are middle aged men. Hmmm…

I’m in Toronto today so I’m going to swing by Motoretta for the first time. Betcha I’ll come out of there with a bad case of Vespa & Corazzo lust! Drooolllll….too late!
