the new 2007 colors of Vespa: yellow and green
Published by Crystal May 19th, 2007 in news & gossip, scooters.
Have you seen the new Vespa colors? Rumors and photos have been showing up on forums and blogs, but so far the new promised colors aren’t on the Vespa USA web site. I got these two pics from their PR company. The 2007 LX line-up includes a snappy yellow version of the LX, above, and I hear tell of a portofino green LXV, much like the portofino green GTV (left, click for larger image). Keep an eye on the LXV and GTV page, and the LX page on the VespaUSA site. I think the green will get more attention from potential buyers, but that yellow… well, let’s just say I have a thing for yellow scooters.

That yellow scooter is sweet. I have always liked yellow vehicles going back to my 1970 VW beetle. If a yellow GTS had been available when I bought the GTS I might have gone that way. It certainly would make for a different kind of photo on my blog.
Gary, author of Rush Hour Rambling, just got a new Vintage Red GTS and his photography has been transformed by it. I’ve always told people the Vespa is like riding around with your own piece of sculpture.

I saw both at Vespa of New Orleans this past weekend. They are sooooo prettyyyyyyyy. I liked the yellow better, especially if you consider in the noticeability factor. My husband thought the green was awesome. Maybe some day….

When I bought my ET4 in 2003, I wanted yellow, but the closest thing they had was white. Nice to see this… I’m pretty sure a time will come when my PX 150 becomes a weekend bike, and I’ll need something like this for commuting. I’m glad to have the option.

This looks a lot like Curt Fargo’s “Ferrari Yellow” custom-painted GTS. Pics are at: http://tinyurl.com/2u9dyb (link to modernvespa.com forums)
Does anyone know when these will be out? I’m in So. Cal. Also, what models do these new colors come in? I’m a total Europhile looking to buy my first Vespa. Any advice? I’m 5′2″ and 110 lbs. Is a GT 200 too big? Should I go to a 150? My husband is twice my size at 6′4″ and 220 lbs. Will a 150 hold both? Should I go used, then new? Any advice would be helpful! Thanks.
Meg, you should sit on a GT before you buy one (and I mean take it off the stand and try to put both feet on the ground). The seats on modern Vespas tend to be tall. I’m 5′ 11′ and 240 lbs. and find the seats on LXs, GTs and my PX 150 to be quite comfortable, but I do know women your size who have some difficulty putting their feet on the ground. Some wear platform boots when they ride, some have gotten cut-down seats (I believe Corbin makes a seat for the GT/GTS). Riding two-up on the LX might be difficult for you and your husband, so the GT might be a better fit there.
As for new vs. used, I’d be inclined to suggest new, if it’s your first scooter. You get a warranty, and a dealer who (in theory) is very interested in making sure your experience is a good one, so you’ll come back and buy more stuff from them. It’s not to say you can’t get a really good deal on a used one… Craigslist is full of late-model Vespas with only a few hundred miles on them. If you’re knowledgable (or your husband is), you could definitely save some money, but if you aren’t, maybe a used one should be your second bike… after you’ve learned about them.
Oh, you HAVE taken an MSF-certified motorcycle safety class… haven’t you?
I was wondering the opposite of Meg - am I too BIG for a Vespa. I’m 6′2 300 lbs. Does anyone know? I’m embarrassed to go to a dealership and get laughed at.
Oh no, Brittany, you’re not too big at all! They make scooters in all shapes colors and sizes. As a strong woman myself I can say that my Yamaha Vino 125 is more than adequate. (All of the other Japanese bikes I tried were waayyyy too small.) And I know for sure there are at least two Vespa models with engines nearly twice the size of mine and designed to carry a driver and a passsenger. Good luck! Scootering is awesome!
